Margaret Otis called the meeting to order at
1:05
. Jo Molnar led the
Pledge.
President’s
Report – The Design Workshop on September 27th
was a great success and pictures from the event have been posted
on the club’s website. Margaret
thanked everyone for their contributions to the Harwich Family
Pantry and reminded the members that next month there is a
collection for the
Baby
Center
. Information for
the next club newsletter must be turned in by November 1st.
Secretary’s Report – accepted and filed
Corresponding
Secretary’s Report – Sharon Oudemool reported that
flowers and cards were sent to Joan Our on the death of her
husband, Robert, and to Ellen Schipke on the death of her
husband, Walter. A
sympathy card was sent to Joan Bittrich on the death of her
sister and the same was sent to the family of Natalie Keil, a
deceased past member. Thank-you
cards were read from Anne Lawson and Joan Our.
Treasurer’s
Report – accepted and filed
Membership
– Carrie Wailgum reported 97 members, 3 associates and one
life member were in attendance.
Two guests were introduced.
The following new members were introduced:
Christine Taylor, Karen Lima, Kathleen Kelly, and Jeanne
Sidoli.
Program
& Trips - The bus trip to Plimoth Plantation has been
cancelled due to lack of participation.
Tickets are now on sale for the December Garden Club Tea
at Chatham Bars Inn. The
tickets are $30.00.
Civic
Beautification – Irene Mitchell thanked everyone for their
hard work over the summer and reminded members of the upcoming
October clean-up. The
new members have been assigned to the clean-up at Thompson
Field. Aileen
Demeusy has the daffodil bulbs for those who ordered them.
What’s
Next – Members were referred to the October up-date
handout. Barbara
Winchell has a meeting schedule for tomorrow to work on the
shell clusters for the public building wreaths.
Carole Davis has several meeting scheduled to complete
the town pole wreaths. Elaine
Sampson reported that the Allen Harbor Bridge Luncheon is full
but they still need a few more wait staff.
Lynn Drummond spoke about the Holiday Boutique on Nov. 30th.
Many helpers are needed to make things to sell and there
are several workshops when this will happen.
Doris Casey asked people to start saving dried plant
material for a Nov. 28th workshop for the boutique.
Dolores Allen and Helen Duarte are in charge of the bake
sale that will accompany the boutique.
Margaret Otis said Peg Murphy has made 14 jars of jelly
from Geri Schumann’s grape arbor for the sale.
Unfinished
Business - The house tour planned for June 2008 has been
rescheduled for
Nov. 10th, ’08
or early Dec. of ’08.
New
Business – The club is considering getting involved in
horticulture therapy for the home bound or those in assisted
living facilities. If
you are interested please speak to a member of the board.
The
meeting was adjourned at
1:30
and Margaret introduced the speaker, Fred Dabney, from Quansett
Nursery, who spoke on ornamental grasses.
