Margaret Otis called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.
Jo Molnar led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Margaret thanked all those who helped in the Christmas
Boutique and the tea at Chatham Bars Inn.

Secretary’s Report: Thank you letters were received
from the Harwich Historical Society for the $100 donation, the
baked goods and decorated items for their Snow Flake Fair; from
the Baby Center for donations of goods; from the West Harwich
Library for the wreath; from Elizabeth Naughton for the plant
sent on death of her husband, Frank and from Carol Porter, the
secretary at the Pilgrim Congregational Church.
A thank you note was sent to Paul and Helen Doane of
Harwich for their $200 contribution to the Garden Club.
Thinking of you cards were sent to Priscilla Hiscox and
to Grace Waystack both of whom fractured their pelvis.
A thinking of you card will be sent to Anne Lawson who
will be having knee replacement surgery on January 14, 2008.
A sympathy card will be sent to Barbara Connolly on the
recent death of her husband.
Membership:
Carrie Wailgum reported that 89 members were present,
which included two Associate members.
There was also one guest.
Programs: Jeanne
Tassinari talked about the April program “Art in Bloom.
She encouraged members to participate in the floral
interpretations of Artwork that will be judged by the members.
Tea
Committee: Rose
Coneeny passed around clipboards for members to sign up for
refreshments for the Tea on February 5.
Margaret requested that no nuts be used in the goodies.
Design
Workshop: The
Design Workshop to be held on January 11, 2008 is full.
Civic
Beautification: Aileen
Demeusy told us that there are two new areas for which the
Garden Club will responsible - the entrance to Cranberry Valley
Golf Course and the overlook at Wychmere Harbor.
Three to four people are needed to care for each place.
Newsletter:
Peg Erdlen, who is in Florida, needs the information by
February 1. The
newsletter will be passed out at the March meeting for those in
attendance. The
remaining newsletters will be mailed.
Fashion
Show: Carol Hanlon spoke about the show, which will be
held on May 7, 2008. She
said they have six models and can use a total of eight.
She will be meeting with the caterer and the people at
Mulberry Commons at the end of January.
After these meetings, she will be able to determine the
price of tickets. Guests
are welcome.
House
Tour: Joan
Garrity will chair a Historical House Tour in conjunction with
the Harwich Historical Society.
This will be held in early fall.
She hopes to have historical homes with gardens.
Bridge
Luncheon: This
will be held in October with the date to be determined.
Mimi Foster will chair the event.
Holiday
Stroll: Cathy
Dillon will chair this event.
Old Business:
Holiday
Decorations: Town Pole Wreaths, Public Building Wreaths and
Doane Park. Margaret
thanked all those who worked on these.
Donations:
Family Pantry (Oct.). A Baby Center (Nov.) and collection
for teen age boys in Dec., which amounted to $1,137.
In order to deliver the Family Pantry and the Baby Center
goods it took two cars.
New
Business:
Ruth Alberding invited all to the Harwich Evening Women’s Club
High Tea and “Unique Fashion Show” to be held on May 8th
at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Center.
Tickets cost $15. Only
100 tickets are available and 57 have been sold as of this date.
Our speaker for the February 5th meeting is Dr.Tom
Greg, President of the Orchid Society.
The Plant Sale
is scheduled for May 24th.
Gerie Schumann will talk about this at next month’s
meeting.
