Jeanne
Tassinari called the meeting to order at 1:05 P.M.
Secretary’s
report for the March 2 meeting had been emailed to members and
copies were available for those without email.
There were no corrections so the report was accepted for
file.
Treasurer’s
report for March 31, 2010 had been emailed to members and copies
made available to those without email.

Corresponding
Secretary Carrie
Wailgum reported that a sympathy card was sent to Lee Tanner on
the death of her father; a “thinking of you” card was sent
to Deb Skinner who is ill with cancer: and a get well card was
sent to Sally Kimball who is back in the hospital.
Program
Chair
Lynne Drummond reported that today’s speaker is Veronica
Worthington from Sea Weed & Cod Fish Herb Farm who will
speak on the Soil Food Web.
The May program will be held jointly with the West Dennis
Garden Club.
Tony Tedesco, NGC Master Judge and Floral Designer will
speak.
Designs will be raffled and light refreshments served.
There is a
waiting list for the April 26 bus tour to MFA museum.
Lynne is
looking for a few more volunteers for next year’s program
committee.
Jeanne thanked
Peg Erdlen and Jackie Leach for their joint efforts on the March
Newsletter.
Civic
Beautification co-chairs Irene Mitchell and Aileen Demeusy
reported that the Friends of Brooks Library were delighted that
we could go forward with a plan to renovate their landscape area
around the parking lot. Eileen drew up a plan for plantings
modified from suggestions made by Crocker Nursery and Agway. The
Friends of the Library will pay for the project and we will
complete and maintain it. The
Garden Club is making a donation of $200 for the project.
The goal is to complete the project by May 30. A sign-up
sheet for volunteers was passed around at the meeting.
Ways
and Means co-chairs
Linda Felice and Aileen Glifort are taking orders for denim
aprons.
They are $15 paid in advance.
Plant
Sale
chair Audrey Osborn reported that she is doing well and most
positions were filled. She had a table with sign up sheets for
the various jobs before the meeting.
She reminded members to start digging up and potting
their perennials so that they would look good for the sale. Nancy
Hipp was selling raffle tickets ($10.00 for 11 tickets).
Membership
chair
Sue Hart announced that Amy Brady and Barbara Brown-Street have
been added to our waiting list.
Former member Pam Latimer was reinstated and presented
with a plant.
Open
Garden Day Chair Sharon Oudermool had tickets for this special
event for sale at $10.
There are 12 gardens which will be open on certain days
between May 19 and August 11.
This event is primarily for our own club members.
Friends may be invited but there will be no publicity.
Conservation
chair Sue Mills announced that on May 19,2010 there will be a
Field Walk at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary from 10-11 AM It
is limited to 20 members. Cost is $4.00 for a guided tour by a
naturalist. Also the Harwich Conservation Trust is having a
dinner at the Sea Grille on June 13.
Cost is $100.
Old
Business
– Jeanne reviewed several garden related events taking place
on the Cape during the next few months.
New
Business –
Ruth Alberding related the pleasant experience that she had
working with the Americorp volunteers at Thompson Field.
She encouraged others to work with them if the
opportunity presented itself.

Horticulture
chair
Pat Tworek reviewed the specimens submitted for the
Horticultural Sweepstakes.
Lynne Drummond introduced the speaker, Veronica Worthington who
gave a very passionate, interesting and informative talk on the
Soil Food Web.
