GARDEN CLUB OF HARWICH
GENERAL MEETING May 4 2010

 Return to Minutes

President Jeanne Tassinari called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM.

Secretary’s Report of the April 6 meeting had been emailed to members.  There were no corrections so the report was accepted for file.

Treasurer’s Report for April 30 had been emailed to members.  It was accepted and filed (copy attached).

Corresponding Secretary Carrie Wailgum reported that get well cards were sent to Eileen Ford for eye surgery and Sally Kimball who is at Liberty Commons.  A sympathy card was sent to Betty Norgeot on the loss of her daughter Betty Alliaume (former member).  Sympathy cards and plants were sent to the family of Deborah Skinner and to Mary McKevitt on the loss of her husband, Larry.

Program Chair Lynne Drummond said that the June speaker is Doris Casey on Creative Window Boxes.

Horticulture Chair Pat Tworek was not present but Jeanne reminded us of the Eldredge Farm visit on May 25.

Civic Beautification co-chair Irene Mitchell said that 17 members planted perennial plants and shrubs at the driving entrance to Brooks Library on Monday.  Next Monday they will plant annuals and mulch.  Friends of the Library made a $1000 donation for this effort.   Also Amy Natiello will be calling all new members to recruit workers for the summer.

Sharon Oudemool is selling tickets for Open Garden Days for $10.

Ways and Means co-chair Linda Felice had aprons available as well as gloves and trakes.

Design Workshop for May 6 on Hanging Baskets by Doris Casey is filled.

Conservation – Sue Mills and Gerry Schumann are collecting $4 from those attending the Wellfleet Wildlife Walk.

Plant Sale co-chair Audrey Osbourne still needs help with breakdown and clean up after the sale.  An email will go out with a complete recap of assignments and where to deliver items.  Lee Tanner is selling raffle tickets.  Sign up sheets were circulated for jobs remaining to be filled.

Membership Chair Sue Hart asked everyone to fill out the new membership form and return it with their dues.  This will be used to insure that information included in our annual booklet is correct.

Scholarship chair Pearl Fournier was not present but had sent Jeanne an email report.  Unfortunately, there were no qualified applicants for the $3000 scholarship.  This will be carried over to the following year.  The head of the Horticulture Department at Cape Cod Tech gave Pearl the names of two deserving students for toolships.  These will be presented at the awards ceremony in June.

NEW BUSINESS

The meeting adjourned at 1:13 PM.
